Get More Done With Less Time ? Building an Online | Travel

Every Internet marketer has one primary goal: to get their business as much on auto pilot as possible so that they don?t have to work as much but can still get real results. If you are still starting out and just setting up your web business you will see that things aren?t quite as easy as they appear because you need to take care of every little thing by yourself. This is when it is particularly important to have good time management skills because if you are able to get more done in a lot less time, you will be able to use the time you save to do your planning and strategizing.

Every single step that you take towards getting this part right will help you improve your overall approach. Here are a few tips that you can use right now to help you get more accomplished without having to put in lots of hours.

Every Internet marketer faces information overload at some point or the other, and this info overload can lead to a loss of productivity, which is why it?s important that you take care of it early on. Start off by putting filters wherever you can, like in your email, your RSS reader and more. This can help you filter anything that might wind up being time consuming and not of any real use. In addition to this, you should only use informational sources that you can trust to deliver the proper information to your desk. When you subscribe to mailing lists that are mostly promotional and not value filled, unsubscribe to them.

If you?re staring down a list of routine tasks that are mundane and time consuming it is time to start thinking about outsourcing or finding ways to automate them. In Internet Marketing you need to focus your attention on earning a profit not on doing those things that are better left for outsourced workers or an automated service.

The more you focus just on this one factor, the more you can grow and the faster you can move.

Once in a while you need some outside help so that you really can get more done in less time. It is important to know who to ask for help and where to get the right kinds of assistance you need to give you the boost you?re looking for. Once in a while you should definitely figure things out on your own because it will be a learning experience but there are going to also be times when it is better to look for help instead of wasting your time. It?s important to make each minute you spend at your work station productive; if something gives you trouble ask for help with it; getting help is nothing to be ashamed of.

All Internet marketers dream of building a business that earns them six figures while running on auto pilot. If you want your Internet business to reach that level, however, you will first need to work on managing your time properly. When you do this, you?ll be able to reach more of the goals you have set in a lot less time. While there are lots of things that can keep you from being productive once you start putting all of those tips into action you can see for yourself how easily things will fall into place and save lots of time. magic spells

Website Marketing: Tips For Unlocking Your Company's Potential ...

Do not think you are the only company owner that wants their business to grow and their profits to reach new levels of success. Then get ready to embrace the low-cost, cutting-edge world of internet promotion. Web marketing is a fast paced, easy way to promote sales through advertisements that people will see on their computers. Read the information below to see how this marketing technique can start bringing you results.

Keep a close eye on the online discussions pertaining to your brand, and incorporate the vocabulary utilized in those conversations into your own marketing strategies. They will feel more comfortable reading things they are familiar with. If you use the right verbiage, it?s much easier to connect with your audience.

Placing user polls next to any content in your website will show your customers how the majority feels about it. This fills your website with engaging content that makes readers feel welcome.

Prepare yourself for any questions you may be asked. Visitors come to your site because they want to know more, and if you are not willing to provide the answers to their questions, they will not stay with you. Providing them with detailed facts has the immediate benefit of satisfying their curiosity, which engenders trust, which leads to sales.

Look into advertising at the start of your marketing plan for your online business. It is always worth your time and money to invest in advertising. This will assist you in building up your business with some customers whom you might never contact otherwise.

You can assess the results of online marketing campaigns with sophisticated programs that measure the sales versus the number of visitors to your site. There are a variety of online tools that you can use to analyze your success.

When you set up your website, be sure there is a section for customer comments. Most visitors will enjoy reading what other people have gathered from their experience with your product. Comments show that your site is honest and trustworthy and makes your customers feel comfortable purchasing from you.

Put your site in a format that is more user friendly. The last thing you want on your website are hard to find links and lack of usability for your audience.

Never simply give up on an approach if it does not immediately produce the desired results. Something that did not catch on a few months ago might work now. As the nature of the Internet evolves, users will always be looking for new ways to do business and explore online. While you shouldn?t invest in failed ideas, hang on to them for the future.

With Web marketing, as with traditional marketing, it is important to use a variety of methods if you want success. You can give yourself time to grow your business to the point where it can provide you with a regular income. Until you are able to see steady profits, make sure you keep your day job.

Try offering a $1 sales promotion for new customers to snag new clients. You create a great buzz and promote strong traffic, and it boosts your product?s exposure. This can also help you sell other products because most people will come for the bargain and add other products as well. Stay confident and believe in your product!

Try using ad banners on your site that don?t actually look like a banner. You should try your best to make them look like they are clickable links to reach more content. When people recognize a banner for what it is, they are reluctant to click on it.

If you are good at writing, write some articles containing your business information to submit to websites and magazines that accept submissions of articles. It is important to include your website information and business information in any article you write. Get the attention of the editors by offering affiliate commissions or freebies so that there is a good incentive for them to publish what you write.

The address of your company?s website should be something that?s easy for people to remember. Try and incorporate your business? name within the URL of your website. Keep your website address simple so that searchers can easily remember how to get to your site.

Use your advertising campaign to make a personal connection with your potential customers. You can put a photo of yourself online and refer to yourself by name in advertisements. A nice, handwritten note that welcomes people to your site is a nice touch.

A little sizzle in your website design can be good, but don?t overwhelm your readers with fancy tricks. Studies show that once someone clicks on a website, they decide whether to stay or click away within five seconds. You have that amount of time to engage viewers. If they have found nothing to hold their interest in that time, then they will leave your site to browse elsewhere.

Successful Internet marketers are enthusiastic about what it is they?re trying to do. Make sure you communicate your confidence in your products. By showing enthusiasm you will help your customers become more enthusiastic for your product. This should generate lots of sales and profits for you.

One powerful Internet marketing strategy you can use is to reward the visitors and customers that come by your site often and make frequent purchases. It is extremely valuable to hold on to the customers that you already have, and your outward generosity will speak volumes about your company. People are generally more than happy to share their great experiences with others, and this can really pay off for you.

If done right, an Internet marketing campaign will create the need for more Internet marketing. It sounds odd, but what you are doing is driving customers to your site to purchase your products, and that job is never done.

Interviews from people high up in your industry can hold a lot of value. Remember to get formal, written permission to publish your interview if you want to avoid any legal hassles. Convert interviews into simple articles, then submit them to directories on E-zine. This can boost your traffic and help you gain credibility.

One good tip for Online marketing is to have an awareness of your competition. Have a look at your competition and see what they are showing on their websites. Also, you can gauge the amount of visitors they get, which lets you evaluate how well their site is performing.

These tips will give your business a boost in profits and productivity. Website marketing is a very powerful tool to promote a business. These tips will easily make the customers flock to you.

The Internet can be a difficult place for small businessmen to compete. There are a couple things you can do to try and stay ahead of the game. You should re-price your items often to stay competitive with others in the same niche. Another method is to consolidate all your offers into a one-stop shopping resource so that your potential customers can view your items without going all over the web.

Feeling hot, hot, hot: Climate shapes distribution and movement of humans as it does other animals

ScienceDaily (Oct. 24, 2012) ? We're not used to thinking of ourselves as animals. But as Jason Samson sees it, climate is as important in shaping the distribution and movement of humans as it is in other animals. The McGill-trained ecologist and fellow researchers have been using modeling techniques similar to those used to define the ecological niche for plant and animal species to explore the correlation between climate patterns and population growth in the contiguous United States between 1900-2000. And what they discovered was a pronounced population shift away from areas within the U.S. with cool and seasonal climates, towards those areas that are warmer and drier year-round, and they found that this was the case even when it meant moving further away from agricultural lands.

By using census data and information about weather patterns (temperature and rainfall) gathered from the nearly 3 000 counties in the U.S. over the course of the century, Samson and his colleagues were able to show the predominant importance of the correlation between climate and demographic growth. Moreover, in the study just published in PLOS ONE, the researchers found that population growth was more correlated with climate than income, urbanization or food production.

The researchers found that the average American today not only lives in a drier environment than they did a century ago, but that they have also experienced a temperature increase of over 1.5? Celsius or 2.7? Fahrenheit over the last century. That represents a six-fold increase compared to the temperature change across the US during the same time period.

More and more Americans now live in the warm southern belt of the country that extends from California to Florida, and includes cities such as San Diego, Austin (the third largest growing city in the nation between 2000-2006) and Tampa. The researchers also point to the fact that demographic growth in these warmer and drier climates within the country, and the trend towards urbanization and agglomeration, has been happening at an accelerating pace over the course of the twentieth century, and is particularly noticeable within the last thirty years.

Although the researchers were able to show such a significant correlation between climate and demographic growth, they caution against thinking of climate as a strong predictive factor in determining population movements. They also caution that this concentration of population in warm, dry areas is likely to have a significant effect on human well-being in these locations due to monetary, and environmental factors (such as growing size and intensity of heat islands, increasing stress on limited water supplies, and the high cost of using air conditioning). And they suggest that policy makers may be well advised to consider this information as they plan for the future given the context of global climate change.

Apple unveils long-rumored iPad Mini starting at $329

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) - Apple Inc.'s pencil-thin, smaller iPad will cost much more than its competitors, signaling that the company isn't going to get into a mini-tablet price war.

The company unveiled the iPad Mini on Tuesday, with a screen about two-thirds the size of the full model, and half the weight. Customers can begin ordering the new model on Friday. In a surprise, Apple also revamped its flagship, full-sized iPad just six months after the launch of the latest model.

Apple's late founder Steve Jobs once ridiculed a small tablet from a competitor as a "tweener" that was too big and too small to compete with either smartphones or tablets. Now Apple's own Mini enters a growing small-tablet market dominated by Amazon.com Inc.'s Kindle Fire.

Apple is charging $329 and up for the Mini - a price that fits into the Apple product lineup between the latest iPod Touch ($299) and the iPad 2 ($399). Company watchers had been expecting Apple to price the iPad Mini at $250 to $300 to compete with the Kindle Fire, which starts at $159. Barnes & Noble Inc.'s Nook HD and Google Inc.'s Nexus 7 both start at $199.

"Apple had an opportunity to step on the throat of Amazon and Google, yet decided to rely on its brand and focus on (profit) margin," said Bill Kreher, an analyst with brokerage Edward Jones.

Apple shares fell $20.67, or 3.3 percent, to close at $613.36 after the price was announced. Shares of Barnes & Noble jumped 88 cents, or 6.1 percent, to $15.32. Shares of Amazon rose 53 cents, or 0.2 percent, to $234.31.

Apple has sold more than 100 million iPads since their debut in April 2010. Analysts expect Apple to sell 5 million to 10 million iPad Minis before the year is out.

Apple starts taking orders for the new model on Friday. The iPad Mini will be competing for the attention of gadget shoppers with the release that same day of computers and tablets running Windows 8, Microsoft's new operating system.

Wi-Fi-only models will ship on Nov. 2. Later, the company will add models capable of accessing cellular, LTE data networks.

The screen of the iPad Mini is 7.9 inches on the diagonal, making it larger than the 7-inch screens of the competitors. It also sports two cameras, on the front and on the back, which the competitors don't.

The iPad Mini is as thin as a pencil and weighs 0.68 pounds, half as much as the full-size iPad with its 9.7-inch screen.

The screen resolution is 1024 by 768 pixels, the same as the iPad 2 and a quarter of the resolution of the flagship iPad, which starts at $499.

The new model has better apps and is easier to use than competitors such as Google's Nexus, said Avi Greengart, a consumer electronics analyst with Current Analysis.

"This really is not in the same category as some of the other 7-inch tablets," he said. "And that's before you consider that it has a premium design - it's made of metal that's extremely lightweight."

Jobs attacked the whole idea of smaller tablets in his last appearance on a conference call with analysts in October 2010.

"The reason we wouldn't make a 7-inch tablet isn't because we don't want to hit a price point. It's because we don't think you can make a great tablet with a 7-inch screen," Jobs said. "The 7-inch tablets are tweeners, too big to compete with a smartphone and too small to compete with an iPad."

Job's chief objection was that a smaller screen would make it hard to hit buttons on the screen with the fingers - never mind that Apple's iPhone, with an even smaller screen, was already a hit at the time.

Apple senior vice president Eddy Cue started working on changing Jobs' mind. In an email sent to other Apple managers in January 2011, Cue said the CEO had started warming to the idea of a smaller tablet. The email surfaced as part of Apple's patent trial against Samsung Electronics Co. this year. Jobs died last October.

Company watchers have been expecting the iPad Mini for a year and most of the details, except the price, had leaked out.

Apple also said it's upgrading its full-size iPad, doubling the speed of the processor. Previously, the company has updated the iPad once a year.

The fourth-generation iPad will have a better camera and work on more LTE wireless data networks around the world. Apple is also replacing the 30-pin dock connector with the new, smaller Lightning connector introduced with the iPhone 5 a month ago.

The price of the new full-size model stays the same as the previous version, starting at $499 for a Wi-Fi-only version with 16 gigabytes of memory.

Apple also introduced a 13-inch MacBook Pro laptop with a Retina display sporting four times the resolution of the older model.

The new model, which follows a 15-inch MacBook Pro with a Retina display introduced in June, goes on sale Tuesday for $1,699.

The old MacBook Pro will still be sold, starting at $1,199.

The new model dispenses with an optical disc drive and a traditional hard drive. Instead, it uses solid-state flash memory. This makes it 20 percent thinner and at 3.75 pounds, nearly a pound lighter than the previous model.

Apple also eliminated the optical drive from its new iMac desktop computer, helping slim the edges down to 5 millimeters, one-fifth the thickness of the old model. That makes the edges thinner than most stand-alone computer monitors. It bulges in middle of the back, however.

An iMac model with a 21.5-inch screen will start shipping in November for $1,299 and up. A 27-inch version will start at $1,799.

First Impression Is Last Impression For A Date ~ Dating and ...

Check out this Guest Post from Dating Expert Ethan Wilson on the importance of making a good and lasting first impression on a Date.

Good communicators win the hearts of women. While dating it is important to use words that will be appreciated and cherished by both the persons. Even when you flirt in a sugar coated language the person will get attracted and will like to spend more time. People fall short of words during their first date. They hardly know anything about each other and therefore both the persons do not understand what to interact. It is rightly said first impression is the last impression. The way we interact on our first date will determine the futuristic course of life. Many fail to realize the importance of conversations and go haywire on their first date and create a mess of their moments.

Following are some of impressive and effective tips on the conversations:

  • Understand the requirements of each other. For this you need to know each other. It is important to also check whether the person we are dating is compatible for us. The relationship will go right if we date the right person. Dating is not a one side approach but people rather emphasis on being accepted by the other. Fear of rejection engulfs the person?s ability of thinking and understanding the situation.
  • During the first date the person can easily discover the compatibility of the person and check whether the person one intended to date. Compatible relationships have a longer life span compared to date hoppers. Each person has desires and hopes in them these feelings should be paid heed rather than foregoing such emotions. Life will offer many chances to regret but only few circumstances that will be cherish able. It is important for the individual to shape his/ her own life remarkably.?
  • After understanding what we want it is easy to look for the person. However do not resort the person for too many questions sessions. This will turn the date into an interview process. It will kill the moment and the fun in it. Since these interview process will proven your requirement phase but it will end up with ending the relationship before it is started.?
  • Interaction is a two way process. Both the person must be given an opportunity to talk and understand about each other. Be willing and honest to talk about yourself. Allow the other person to explore you. Talking about oneself in a pivotal manner will make the environment light and help the other person to feel more comfortable. Some people take time to come out of their comfort zone. During this phase if there is lack of interaction it will lose the interest between each other.?
  • Prepare yourself but be yourself throughout. Don?t wear a mask and try to only impress the other. In case of lull phases during date one can try taking the initiative this will keep the chemistry going on. Be natural as far as you can. This will benefit in the long run.?

Needed Instruments of Peace : IgnitumToday

In our current election cycle, perhaps more than any other in the last forty years, we have two candidates for President with stark, contrasting views about the role of government in the working of society. The differences, one would think, would leave a very clear choice for Catholics to make in going to the polls. Yet, many of us have experienced division among our friends and new media acquaintances. ?My Facebook feed has had some contested back-and-forth arguing among Catholics on the issues of the economy, healthcare, social security and medicare, women?s health, and services to the poor.

Under one of my posts, a fellow Catholic supporting the current administration wrote, ???there are many sick and broken people in America: ?the marginalized, the underclass, those who are thrown from their homes (because of) banking policies, and those who simply cannot afford the health care system.? ?Many compassionate friends fear that undoing the newly implemented healthcare law will leave those without a voice in the dust. Others have voiced the importance of personal responsibility and economic stability in order to ensure on-going help to those in dire need.

So what to do? How to reconcile the needs on the minds and hearts of the modern Catholic facing an election that is so polarized?

Another ?friend of mine, reading a article about subsidiarity that I posted on Facebook was quick to remind me, ?Subsidiarity without solidarity, is as unbalanced as solidarity without subsidiarity.?

This is, I believe, part of our problem in trying to reconcile our social beliefs with our civic duty. Many of my compassionate friends who live in close solidarity with the poor, advocating for their needs, have not considered the Church?s teaching on subsidiarity within the broader framework of the Magisterial teaching on the Human Community. ?On the other hand, many who are concerned with the economy and limited government have not integrated the Church?s teachings on solidarity and the common good.

I?d like to explore these two principles ? on solidarity and subsidiarity ? together; the way they were meant to be; like to ends to an accordion that work together for the good of society. These principles are discussed in Part Three of the Catechism: Life in Christ, in the second chapter on The Human Community, in three articles:

ART 1: CCC 1878-1896

ART 2: CCC 1897-1927

ART 3: CCC 1928-1948

The Person and Society

Participation in Social Life

Social Justice

Subsidiarity

Authority ? Common Good

Responsibility and Participation

Solidarity

?

Since we are made in the image of God and called through baptism to reflect the Son, Jesus Christ, our lives and relationships should also reflect the relationship of the Most Holy Trinity. By understanding human relationship in this way, the image of the Holy Trinity can be reflected upon in both an individual?s relationships, but also in the relationship of government bodies over the care of their people. ?The human person?is and ought to be the principle, the subject and the end of all social institutions.? (Gaudium et Spes, 25).

With this in mind, organizations ? both voluntary and governmental ? find their reason for existence, for the purpose of developing ?the sense of initiative and responsibility, and helps to guarantee individual rights.? ?But there are limitations that government has if the human person is to be free to act as intended by God.

Subsidiarity

While recognizing the importance of organizational structures in society, the Magisterium warns of the danger that organizations and government can have on society, that ?excessive intervention by the state can threaten personal freedom and initiative.? This is where the principle of subsidiarity becomes important.

The Catechism explains the principle: ?according to which ?a community of a higher order should not interfere in the internal life of a community of a lower order, depriving the later of its functions, but rather should support it??? (CCC1883). In this way, government becomes a mirror of God?s governance: ?God has not willed to reserve to himself all exercise of power. He entrusts to every creature the functions it is capable of performing, according to the capacities of his own nature. This mode of governance ought to be followed in social life? (CCC 1884).

In his article on subsidiarity, Benjamin Wiker uses an example where government, in providing for a man?s family takes away the man?s role as husband and father to care for his children and wife, and thus strips him of the capacity for moral perfection in his vocational role as a father and husband. Too much intervention by the state can threaten personal freedom and initiative:

?The state, like a benevolent dictator, could provide food, clothing, and shelter for my wife and children, but in doing so, it would violate my ?moral space,? the space in which I have the opportunity and responsibility of using my freedom to become morally good.?

The danger then, becomes one that, a government that does too much doesn?t allow her people to do for themselves what they can, and thus weakens the whole society, and threatens the moral fabric of that society.

Then, what about those who are poor, who legitimately need assistance of one kind or another? This leads us to consider the proper place of the principle of solidarity.

Solidarity

Human beings are made differently. Saint Paul describes the body of Christ comprised of many people with different gifts that go to build up the whole body (Romans 12:3-8). The differences between persons lead to an interdependence in society. We are different, but as the Church defends, ?these differences encourage and often oblige persons to practice generosity, kindness, and sharing of goods; they foster the mutual enrichment of cultures.? And this is all part of God?s plan (CCC 1937). The principle of solidarity is characterized as ?friendship? or ?social charity? that we are called to show toward our brothers and sisters.

Our society sometimes confuses the idea of solidarity with ?leveling the playing field? where everyone is the same. The Church doesn?t teach that. On the contrary, she acknowledges that ?talents are not distributed equally? (CCC 1936), but also that there are ?sinful inequalities? that exist, where unhealthy work conditions are imposed; where human dignity is downplayed (CCC 1938). These would be appropriate areas that government can intervene, to protect and uphold the human dignity of the person, and to ensure that justice ? the giving one what is due to him ? is assured.

Solidarity, then, the building of friendship and charitable respect between rich and poor, workers and employers, government and its peoples become the foundation by which socio-economic problems can be resolved (CCC 1941). It promotes an individual to act in the best interest and fairness toward his neighbor, and to practice charity freely out of love.

In conclusion, it is good to remind ourselves that the purpose (the end) of human existence rests in God himself. The pattern of inter-relationship found in the unity of the three Divine Persons is a model for the human family and government as well. The love that resides in the Blessed Trinity is the call of all peoples, making the love of neighbor inseparable from the love of God.

It is as though all humanity is called to communicate divine love. Each individual is called to reflect God?s love to his neighbor. Similarly, the greater society, is called to be a mirror of God in the way it must govern her people. In doing so, it ?bears witness to such great regard for human freedom? (CCC1884) and by providing security and order, becomes an instrument of true peace.

For Mars rover Curiosity, at last, it's dinnertime. On the menu: dirt.

It's period of painstaking preparations over, the Mars rover Curiosity has at long last ingested a sample of soil for analysis by its on-board chemistry lab. That's what it came 352 million miles for.

By Pete Spotts / October 18, 2012

This photo taken Oct. 15, shows part of the small pit or bite created when Mars rover Curiosity collected its second scoop of Martian soil at a sandy patch called 'Rocknest.' The bright particle near the center of this image was assessed by the mission's science team to be native Martian material rather than spacecraft debris.

After 70 days on Mars, NASA's rover Curiosity finally is doing what it's paid the big bucks to do: Eat dirt.

In a mission where progress so far is being measured in an excruciating series of baby steps, the rover has for the first time moved a soil sample from the Martian surface to CheMin ? one of two mini laboratories inside Curiosity's chassis that are expected to reveal the minerals that comprise the red planet's ubiquitous dust.

Such a seemingly simple feat has been a long time coming, notes John Grotzinger, a planetary geologist at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena and the Mars Science Laboratory's project scientist.

Researchers have measured soil properties beginning with the Viking landers in the mid 1970s and with each lander since ? each in different locations. This has yielded the observation that "there's something about the soil so far that's been very generic to Mars," he says.

"What's really exciting about this sample that just got dumped into CheMin" and later will be scrutinized by a second lab package on the rover "is that they are going to be able to analyze once and for all the mineral composition" of this material "that swirls around the planet," he says.

It's the first test of CheMin's ability to uncover the elements in the soil grains and identify minerals in them following the rover's 352-million-mile, nearly nine-month journey to Mars. The mission's goal is to determine if Gale Crater and its towering, central Mt. Sharp could have hosted microbial life early in the planet's history.

Central to that task is the ability to deliver samples to CheMin and the second internal lab package, SAM. SAM analyzes gases from the atmosphere and from heated samples of soil and rock to hunt for organics that would signal a hospitable ancient habitat.

To that end, engineers have spent the last two weeks gathering two scoops full of soil to scrub out the inside of the sample delivery system, removing any remaining contaminants from Earth.

The first scrubbing session went well. But engineers aborted the delivery system's second silty "bath" when images of the depression the scoop left in the soil revealed a small, shiny fleck that reminded the team of what it previously dubbed "shmutz" ? loose bits of plastic that came from the rover itself.

The sample-delivery system, known as CHIMRA, might not take kindly to ingesting a bit of rover detritus as part of the cleaning process. So, wary that the soil in the scoop itself might hide another piece of shmutz, the team dumped the soil and took a closer look at the shiny fleck in the depression.

After some scientific chin-scratching, a strong consensus emerged among the science team that the fleck actually originated on Mars, Grotzinger says. In a stroke, the fleck shifted from an object of concern to an object of scientific interest.

Sometime in the next few days, the science team will reposition the rover so it can use ChemCam, atop the rover's mast, to zap the fleck with its laser and figure out what it's made of, Dr. Grotzinger says.

The fleck is only about 1 millimeter across. Reseachers speculate that it could be a tiny chip of mineral cleaved by the wind-driven movement of pebbles at the site. Or it could represent a mineral that formed naturally in the space between larger grains of sand and soil.

"It probably represents a science opportunity rather than an engineering threat," Grotzinger said at a briefing Thursday.

Once the team put the fleck on its scientific agenda, it finished up the housekeeping chores with a third scoopful of soil that is now working its way through CheMin. SAM could see its first sample next week.

"The most important thing about our mobile laboratory is that it eats dirt; that's what we live on," Grotzinger says.

And with confirmation that the latest sample has been safely delivered to CheMin, Curiosity's engineers and scientist can now bid the rover bon appetit.

The Most Dangerous/Enthusiastic Dude at the Gym | Greatist

This guy has no shame. He dangles from fitness equipment in ways never considered (or probably attempted) before. All those snappy moves ? air punches and tailspins included ? really?freshen up the regular old stuff the rest of the guys are sticking to. It?s also a little dangerous (wait for 0:42 when piece of the machine actually snaps off).

On a serious fitness note, this unnamed gym-goer leaves little to no rest time between exercises and undoubtedly keeps his heart rate up. So much so, that he feels obligated to whip off his shirt before he break dances right there on the gym floor.

The guy undeniably has Boogey Fever?with moves that rival Travolta (okay, it?s true, he does kind of look like he?s kicking off a tangled mess of cobwebs from his feet at about 0:30). Yeah he knocks stuff down, but it doesn?t faze him. Nor does the potential for whiplash. When his pants get in the way. What does he do? He shows a little leg.

Granted, the ?work out? looks totally bonkers but we have to give him some props for getting fit (probably) in his own way.?As long as he?s not hurting himself or passersby, then who are we to judge? Though his form is less then customary, it?s clear that he?s still working up quite the sweat.

You do you, sir.

Effects of green tea in men with (apparently) low-risk prostate cancer ...

According to a media release issued last Thursday, a paper presented at a cancer conference in Anaheim, California, last week suggests that men with prostate cancer who drank green tea every day day prior to having a radical prostatectomy had a significant reduction in markers for prostate inflammation.

The paper, by Henning and other researchers from the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California Los Angeles, gave results from a randomized study of the consumption of 6 cups of freshly brewed green tea or or 6 cups of water daily for 3 to 8 weeks, depending on the timing of their surgery.

The core results of the study, as reported in the media release from the American Association for Cancer Research, showed that, at the end of the study:

  • Serum PSA levels were significantly lower compared with baseline levels in men consuming green tea.
  • Expresssion of PSA in actual prostate tissue was lower in men assigned to green tea consumption compared with the control group.
  • Expression of nuclear factor kappa B, a known marker of prostate inflammation, was significantly reduced in men assigned to green tea compared with the control group.
  • An unspecified?urinary marker of oxidative DNA damage was significantly decreased in urine from men assigned to green tea compared with the control group.

However, it also has to be noted that the researchers found:

  • No differences in markers of tumor cell proliferation between the two treatment groups.

It has long been known that drinking green tea on a regular basis can have a variety of effects on the prostate in at least some men. However, there are no really meaningful data on whether drinking green tea can actually lower risk from prostate cancer in men who have not been diagnosed with this condition or whether it can reduce risk for prostate cancer progression in men diagnosed wioth low-risk prostate cancer who could theoretically be managed by active surveillance.

While the study reported in this media release does appear to offer some futher insights into the association between consumption of green tea and subsequent effects on markers for prostate inflammation, it does not tell us anything very significant about whether the effects on the markers are actually associated with clinical effects on the progression of prostate cancer. While drinking green tea is highly unlikely to to be harmful (even if you like drinking a lot of it), this study can not be used to justify the idea that men who have already been diagnosed with prostate cancer and then drink green tea will necessarily either (a) do better on long-term active surveillance or (b) do better after first-line therapy of any type.

The media release also does not give us enough information about the precise level of risk of the 67 participants in the study. We don?t know anything about their age, their baseline PSA levels, their clinical stages, their Gleason scores, or the volume of prostate cancer in their prostates. It would appear that they were all low-risk patients based on the language of the media release, but we cannot be certain since we haven?t seen the data from the actual presentation.

Plant-based foods may offer reduced risk for aggressive prostate cancer

ScienceDaily (Oct. 19, 2012) ? President George W. Bush made no secret that he detested broccoli. With all due respect to our former leader, researchers have found one more great reason to add fruits, vegetables, herbs and tea to your diet.

A study by Susan Steck of the Arnold School of Public Health finds that a high intake of flavonoids, a group of compounds found in plants, may lower the risk for highly aggressive prostate cancer.

"Incorporating more plant-based foods and beverages, such as fruits, vegetables, herbs and tea, into the diet may offer some protection against aggressive prostate cancer," said Steck, an associate professor at the Arnold School and an affiliated scholar with the Center for Research in Health Disparities.

"Filling your plate with flavonoid-rich foods is one behavior that can be changed to have a beneficial impact on health," she said.

Steck presented her findings at the International Conference on Frontiers in Cancer Prevention Research. The annual event is sponsored by the American Association for Cancer Research, whose mission is to prevent and cure cancer through research, education, communication and collaboration.

Prior preclinical studies have shown that flavonoids have beneficial effects against prostate cancer, but few studies have examined the effect of flavonoids on prostate cancer in humans.

Steck and her colleagues used data from 920 African-American men and 977 white men in the North Carolina-Louisiana Prostate Cancer Project who were newly diagnosed with prostate cancer. Participants completed a self-reported dietary history questionnaire to assess flavonoid intake, which was measured using the U.S. Department of Agriculture's 2011 Database for the Flavonoid Content of Selected Foods.

Men with the highest total intake of flavonoids had a 25 percent lower risk for aggressive prostate cancer compared with those men with the lowest flavonoid intake.

"We found that higher total flavonoid intake was associated with reduced odds for aggressive prostate cancer in both African-American and European-American men, but no individual subclass of flavonoids appeared to be protective independently, suggesting that it is important to consume a variety of plant-based foods in the diet, rather than to focus on one specific type of flavonoid or flavonoid-rich food," Steck said.

In addition, the risk for aggressive prostate cancer was even lower in those men younger than 65 and in current smokers with the highest levels of flavonoid intake. Dietary questionnaire results revealed that citrus fruits and juices, such as oranges and grapefruits, tea, grapes, strawberries, onions and cooked greens were the top contributors to total flavonoid intake among the participants. "The results support public health recommendations and guidelines from organizations such as the American Institute for Cancer Research to consume a more plant-based diet," Steck said. "In particular, consuming more flavonoid-rich foods may be beneficial for those people who are at increased risk for cancer, such as smokers."
